Eston Remembrance Garden
For the past several years, the ERC has taken responsibility to care for and maintain the Eston Remembrance Garden. Over the years, the Garden has been added to with a beautiful mural by our resident artist - and ERC member - Phil Meadows, as well as flowers, planters, community art stones and other elements.
We are currently in the process of adding additional features - including a wall to insert commemorative plaques/bricks, and steel archway - to the Garden as a result of funding received from Woodsmith Foundation. We hope to provide further updates on this in due course, and are currently in the process of seeking Planning approval.
The Eston Remembrance Garden is located on Eston High Street, and is a short distance from the War Memorial. We welcome anyone to visit the space and take a moment to reflect.
Not Just a Name
In October 2024, the ERC launched a new project titled “Not Just a Name”, seeking to reveal the rich stories behind the names on the Eston Square War Memorial – stories of lives, sacrifices, and bravery. But to make this happen, we need your help.
If you have a loved one or relative listed on the Eston War Memorial, please consider sharing their story with us. We’re looking for:
• Photos, birth details, and family information
• Schools they attended and their early employment
• Service details, such as locations or battles they served in
• Decorations, memorial items, and final resting places
Our aim is to create A3 vinyl banners, each featuring a unique story, that will be displayed around Eston during the Remembrance period. Local school children will help design each banner, and we’re planning to include QR codes for those wanting to dive deeper into these stories, ultimately linking back to a dedicated page on this website.
While this will undoubtedly be a long-term project we’re confident - with support from our local community and businesses - that we can bring this to life. Please take a moment to watch our video from the Eston Market in October to learn more about how you can help us honour our local heroes.
